15:15Z 59 VA Wythe Rural Retreat A cluster of severe thunderstorms over western Wythe County produced numerous pockets of wind damage. Several homes sustained shingle damage and one had a roof blown off along Old Stage Road. In addition, two persons were injured by falling tree branches near Rural Retreat Lake. Several trees were blown down at the lake and a roof blown off a concession stand. Additional damage was reported in Rural Retreat and Speedwell. In the northwest part of the county, areas around the country club and Stony Fork were damaged. In eastern Wythe County, Ivanhoe sustained damage.|The area around the Wytheville Golf and Country Club on Highway 11 was also hit hard with fallen trees and power lines along the road near the West End Cemetery.|Mountain Empire Airport (KMKJ) had 68 mph wind gust at 11:14 AM from this storm.

Thunderstorm downburst winds estimated at 75 mph caused considerable damage from the west shore all the way to Marblehead. Over 250 trees were toppled or snapped in Danbury Township. Several homes sustained damage from fallen trees. Other homes lost roofing or siding and two vehicles were crushed by fallen trees. Large hail accompanied the strong winds and also caused extensive damage. Danbury Township Police were unable to conduct a storm survey because all of the departments police cruisers were damaged by the hail. Funnel clouds were reported in the area but there was no evidence of a touchdown.

00:35Z 78 AL Marshall Guntersville Several strong thunderstorms merged and intensified around the southern portion of Guntersville lake. A microburst occurred, with the most significant damage occurring at the Claysville snack bar located along Highway 431, just south of the Highway 431/Highway 79 interchange. The small cinder block building with a relatively flat wood roof that was covered by sheet metal, was heavily damaged. The wind ripped the entire roof structure off and collapsed three of the four exterior walls. The debris was thrown downwind approximately 100 yards. The microburst had estimated maximum winds of 90 mph and appeared to initially be concentrated directly over the snack bar, with further damage moving away from this point. There was evidence of a 50 yard section of a chain link fence being bent foward and nearly uprooted by the damaging wind. The estimated length of this particular microburst was 0.6 miles. |A couple of blocks downstream and to the north and between Braswell road and a nearby marina, several medium sized trees were snapped midway down the tree, with smaller branches thrown around. There were also a few sproadic trees downed just northeast of the microburst location.
