12:17Z 56 GA Floyd Cave Spg The Floyd County Emergency Management Director reported that strong thunderstorm winds, likely well in excess of 60 mph, caused widespread and extensive damage across the county. Some of the worst damage was in the Cave Spring area. All together, 157 homes and 13 commercial buildings sustained minor to moderate damage or were destroyed, many from downed trees. Four injuries were reported during this event, three which occurred when a large tree fell on a vehicle and a fourth when a large tree fell on a home and injured an elderly lady. Over 300 trees were down across the county causing 32 roads to be closed. Over 15,000 homes and many businesses across the county were left without power for several hours. Both Shorter University and Berry College were closed as neither institution had any power at the start of the business day. The Emergency Manager estimated that monetary damages from this countywide thunderstorm wind event exceeded the damage that occurred later in the day with an EF2 tornado, during which the damage was more localized.

12:22Z 52 GA Dade Rising Fawn The Dade County Emergency Management Director reported that dozens of trees and power lines were down throughout the county, even outside the EF1 tornado path that tracked from just south-southwest of Trenton to near the Tennessee border near Wildwood. The damage was the result of strong straight line winds of 60 mph or greater.

Numerous trees were also down just southwest of Trenton with extensive damage along North Woods Lane. This was the same neighborhood to be struck by an EF1 tornado at 840 am EDT and an EF3 tornado later the same day. This neighborhood was literally devastated by these multiple events tracking over the same area.

A covered boat slip was destroyed. The path width was about 50 yards. In Fruitland, numerous branches were blown down. A set of columns on a front porch was taken down by falling tree limbs. A couple of trees were uprooted.

Also a small Bradford Pear tree was uprooted in this area. ||However, more substantial damage occurred further northeast within this wind swath near the intersection of Cleveland Branch road and CR 57. In this area, multiple pines were uprooted or blown over. In addition, some tall thin pine trees were snapped off midway down to the ground, even a few near their base. Three very large pine trees and oak tree were uprooted further northeast of the Cleveland Branch road intersection with CR 57. In this same area some pine trees were also uprooted on the other side of the road. ||Additional damage continued along Cleveland Branch Road, where a farm building was totally destroyed. Additional tree damage and some minor roof damage continued along this road, but to a lesser extent.

Damage indicators surveyed were consistent with maximum thunderstorm winds in excess of 70 mph.

Intermittent tree damage continued northeast about a third of a mile down Highway 781.
