17:51Z EF0 KEAX MO Lafayette Odessa A brief tornado formed within a linear convective severe storm that moved through the Kansas City Metro area. As the storm approached Odessa, Missouri a weak and brief tornado caused some minor damage to businesses and residences in Odessa. The worst of the damage occurred across the west end of town, then the tornado crossed Interstate 70 causing a semi to overturn on the westbound lane of I-70 near Odessa.
19:26Z EF0 KUEX NE Franklin Upland This tornado touched down approximately 2 miles north-northeast of Upland and was on the ground for about 3 minutes. No damage was reported with this tornado.
20:20Z EF1 KDMX IA Wapello Highland Center Tornado formed initially as a broad circulation east of Highland Center. First damage was to a farm site where a chicken barn was destroyed and two power poles were snapped. As the tornado traveled quickly to the northeast and struck utility poles producing a considerable lean. The tornado then continued into Keokuk county.
20:23Z EF1 KDMX IA Keokuk Martinsburg NWS storm survey teams determined that a tornado developed in far northern Wapello County, crossed Keokuk County and southeastern Iowa County, and ended in rural southwest Johnson County. This entry is for the portion of the tornado that affected Keokuk County. ||This long track tornado started east of Highland Center and traveled at about 60 mph to the northeast. The circulation was initially very broad and began to tighten as it progressed to the northeast. The tornado moved into Keokuk County at around 323 pm CDT (223 pm CST). It then created a near-continuous damage path across Keokuk County, with damage primarily to outbuildings, trees, and power poles. In Martinsburg, a tied-down mobile home was also pushed to the north off its block base. Two fatalities occurred, one west of Martinsburg and on north of Kinross. Both fatalities were associated with people who were outdoors and caught in debris from outbuildings that were destroyed. ||The tornado was on the ground for about 30 miles across Keokuk County. It exited Keokuk County at about 352 pm and moved into Iowa County near the junction of the Keokuk-Iowa-Washington county lines.
20:52Z EF1 KDVN IA Iowa Holbrook NWS storm survey teams determined that a tornado developed in far northern Wapello County, crossed Keokuk County and southeastern Iowa County, and ended in rural southwest Johnson County. ||This entry is for the portion of the tornado that affected Iowa County. This long track tornado initially started east of Highland Center and traveled at about 60 mph to the northeast. After crossing Keokuk County, the tornado moved into Iowa County near the junction of the Iowa, Keokuk, and Washington County lines at around 352 pm CDT (252 pm CST). It left a damage path about 10 miles long in rural areas that included damage to outbuildings and trees. ||The tornado exited Iowa County at about 402 pm CDT (302 pm CST) and moved into Johnson County a few miles south of I-80.
21:02Z EF0 KDVN IA Johnson Windham NWS storm survey teams determined that a tornado developed in far northern Wapello County, crossed Keokuk County and southeastern Iowa County, and ended in rural southwest Johnson County. This entry is for the portion of the tornado that affected Johnson County. ||This long track tornado initially started east of Highland Center and traveled at about 60 mph to the northeast. After crossing Keokuk and southeastern Iowa Counties, the tornado moved into Johnson County about 10 miles southwest of Tiffin at around 4:02 pm CDT (3:02 pm CST). It left a path of scattered tree and shed damage for about 4.25 miles in rural southwest Johnson County as it weakened. ||It finally lifted about 4.2 miles south of Oxford at about 4:06 pm CDT (3:06 pm CST).
21:40Z EF0 KUEX NE York Bradshaw This tornado, which briefly touched down approximately 5 miles north-northeast of Bradshaw, was witnessed by storm chasers. No damage was reported with this tornado.
21:40Z EF0 KDVN IA Linn Lisbon Mohn Arpt Several spotters reported a tornado between Mt. Vernon and Springville. Traffic lights were knocked out by the tornado. Radar signatures show that this tornado shares the same parent storm circulation that can be traced back to the Keokuk County tornado.
22:17Z EF0 KUEX NE Polk Swedehome This tornado, which touched down northwest of the intersection of Highways 92 and 39 approximately 8 miles west-northwest of Osceola, was witnessed by multiple storm chasers. No damage was reported with this tornado.
22:29Z EF2 KINX OK Ottawa Commerce A tornado damaged or destroyed about 50 homes and businesses in and around Quapaw, destroyed several metal-framed buildings, destroyed barns and outbuildings, blew over several vehicles, snapped or uprooted numerous trees, and blew down numerous power poles. At least twelve people were injured in Quapaw from the tornado and one fatality occurred when a brick wall fell onto a vehicle that was parked along side it. Based on this damage, maximum estimated wind in the tornado was 115 to 125 mph. The tornado continued into Cherokee County, Kansas, where it destroyed homes and businesses in Baxter Springs and injured about two dozen people there.
22:31Z EF1 KSRX OK Le Flore Octavia A tornado snapped or uprooted a number of trees as it crossed Highway 259 north of Octavia. Due to much of the remainder of the path being in areas inaccessible by road, the beginning and ending points of this tornado were estimated. Based on the damage to the trees along Highway 259, maximum estimated wind in the tornado was 95 to 105 mph.
22:35Z EF2 KINX KS Cherokee Baxter Spgs A survey team determined an EF2 tornado struck the town of Baxter Springs, Kansas. The tornado started near Quapaw, Oklahoma and crossed the state line into Kansas then moved through the town of Baxter Springs producing a 150 yard wide swath of damage from southwest to northeast through the center of town. Emergency management reported approximately 90 homes and 11 business were destroyed and an additional seven businesses and 85 homes suffered damage. Approximately 25 injuries were reported but no fatalities. Maximum wind speeds were estimated to be between 120 and 130 mph.
22:40Z EF1 KEAX KS Bourbon Hammond A storm survey conducted by the NWS Office in Pleasant Hill found an EF1 tornado began at the intersection of Highway 69 and Soldier Road, near Hammond, Kansas. Minor damage was noted near Hammond, with the most significant damage consisting of toppled over grain bins and several derailed empty train cars. Through the remainder of the Bourbon County path, several destroyed outbuildings were noted as well as significant tree damage. The tornado path continued into Linn County, Kansas. Maximum winds with the tornado in Bourbon County were estimated to be between 100 and 110 mph with a maximum width of 200 yards.
22:48Z EF2 KEAX KS Linn Prescott This tornado path is a continuation of the same tornado that came out of Bourbon County. The most significant damage occurred as the tornado strengthened just north of the Linn and Bourbon County line. In rural Linn County, between Pleasanton, Kansas and Prescott, Kansas an outdoor garage storing heavy equipment was completely destroyed and nearly removed from its foundation. At this same location an empty semi trailer was tossed was tossed over 200 yards into a grove of trees and several other smaller vehicles were tossed about the property. Near Pleasanton, Kansas a church that was built in the 1880's was completely destroyed. The path of the tornado ended just east or southeast of Pleasanton in an open field.
23:15Z EF0 KEAX MO Vernon Milo Several reports from the public revealed a brief tornado touchdown over rural and wooded land south of Nevada and west of Milo with several trees and large branches blown down. One eye witness captured the tornado on video and another witness captured a detailed picture of the tornado on the ground. The land area where the trees were down was in an area that is remote and had no road access. Time and location was estimated by witnesses and radar. Winds were estimated at 70 mph.
00:06Z EF3 KLZK AR Pulaski Ferndale A tornado began west of the Ferndale area, near the Saline/Pulaski County line. This was the first of five tornadoes produced by the same supercell thunderstorm. According to the American Red Cross, 7 houses were destroyed, 24 had major damage, 9 houses and 1 mobile home had minor damage, and 76 houses were affected in Pulaski County. Three members of one family, a 48-year-old male, a 20-year-old female, and a 14-year-old female, were killed in a house on Deer Dr. Communities affected included Ferndale and Roland. The tornado crossed the eastern portion of Lake Maumelle. The tornado exited Pulaski County 1.6 miles northeast of Roland, as it crossed the Arkansas River, and entered Faulkner County 0.6 mile southwest of Palarm.
00:25Z EF4 KLZK AR Faulkner Palarm This tornado exited Pulaski County 1.6 miles northeast of Roland, while crossing the Arkansas River, and entered Faulkner County 0.6 mile southwest of Palarm. The tornado reached its maximum intensity of EF4 in Faulkner County. It tracked through the River Plantation subdivision and White City, then struck Mayflower, where residences and businesses were destroyed. The tornado then moved across Interstate 40 at Mayflower, throwing cars, trucks, and road construction equipment off the freeway. Traffic along the interstate was backed up for weeks following the tornado as motorists slowed to view the damage. Next, the tornado crossed a part of Lake Conway and moved across part of Camp Robinson, a National Guard facility, where the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission lost a clubhouse, shop, horse barn, residence, metal carports, shower house, and dog kennels. The tornado then continued on through Saltillo and then caused devastation to homes and businesses in Vilonia. About 400 people had taken shelter in a safe room at the Vilonia high school. ||According to the American Red Cross, in Faulkner County, the tornado destroyed 261 houses and 121 mobile homes; caused major damage to 77 houses, 29 mobile homes, and 5 apartments; caused minor damage to 96 houses, 14 mobile homes, and 4 apartments; and affected 257 houses, 32 mobile homes, and 4 apartments. Hundreds of cars and pickup trucks were mangled along the path of the tornado. ||In Mayflower, a home improvement store was badly damaged, and a vehicle repair shop, millwork company, construction company, electric substation, and church were destroyed. A recreational vehicle dealership and dozens of RVs were also destroyed. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission eventually removed 627 tons of tornado debris from Lake Conway. In Vilonia, the new intermediate school under construction was destroyed, as were nearly two dozen businesses along Main St. (U.S. 64B), including a dollar store, a strip mall, two auto repair shops, the old city hall, a gas station, a real estate office, an investment firm, an auto parts store, and a fried chicken restaurant. ||There were 12 fatalities in Faulkner County. In the Mayflower area, a 72-year-old woman was killed in a house on Plantation Dr., a 51-year-old man was killed in a house on Fortner Dr., and an 82-year-old man was killed in a house on Dam Rd. The other 9 fatalities were all in the Vilonia area. These included: brothers 7- and 9-years-old in a house on Cody Ln., a 50-year-old woman in a vehicle on U.S. 64, a 52-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman in a house on Cemetery Rd., a 57-year-old man in a house on North St., a 31-year-old man in a house on Aspen Creek Dr., and a 22-year-old man in a house on Clover Ridge Dr. In addition, a woman who was injured in a mobile home on Ponderosa Dr. gave birth to a baby which died immediately. More than 150 people were treated at hospitals. ||The tornado hit Vilonia three years and two days after a tornado had destroyed some of the same structures. The tornado exited Faulkner County 4.6 miles southeast of Naylor and entered White County 2.2 miles west-northwest of El Paso.
00:30Z EF0 KRTX WA Pierce Eatonville The tornado destroyed a carport at one house. The trestles were also cracked inside of the garage. A utility pole was bent back (leaning) which was being supported by a digger. The garbage can was found in the trees; the trees were damaged. Several shingles were ripped from roofs. A road sign and several more trees were also damaged nearby. At the local Eagle's Club, siding was peeled back on one corner with branches strewn across the property. Estimated peak wind speeds of 75 mph.
00:59Z EF2 KLZK AR White El Paso This tornado exited Faulkner County 4.6 miles southeast of Naylor and entered White County 2.2 miles west-northwest of El Paso. The tornado caused massive timber damage along Jack Williams Rd., then caused damage to residences on Arkansas 5 and El Paso Rd. In White County, two houses and a mobile home were destroyed, another house had major damage, two had minor damage, and one was affected. A 55-year-old woman was killed in a mobile home on El Paso Rd. and one other person was injured.
01:16Z EF2 KLZK AR White Joy An EF2 tornado struck the area around Center Hill. This was the second of five tornadoes produced by the same supercell thunderstorm. According to the American Red Cross, 4 houses and 11 mobile homes were destroyed, 4 mobile homes suffered major damage, 5 houses and 3 mobile homes had minor damage, and 2 houses and 3 mobile homes were affected. Numerous trees were blown down, and vehicles and outbuildings were destroyed. One person was injured.
01:38Z EF0 KLZK AR White Steprock According to the American Red Cross, the tornado caused major damage to one mobile home, and minor damage to four houses. Most of the damage was due to falling trees. This was the third of five tornadoes produced by the same supercell thunderstorm.
01:43Z EF1 KLZK AR White Bare Stone An EF1 tornado caused major roof damage to a house and minor roof damage to a mobile home. Trees and power lines were blown down. This was the fourth of five tornadoes caused by the same supercell thunderstorm. The tornado exited White County 1.1 miles east-southeast of Midway and entered Jackson County 2.3 miles north of Denmark.
01:48Z EF1 KLZK AR Jackson Denmark The tornado exited White County 1.1 miles east-southeast of Midway and entered Jackson County 2.3 miles north of Denmark. In Jackson County, two outbuildings were destroyed, there was roof damage to a house, and a barn was blown down. Trees and power lines were also blown down.
01:52Z EF1 KLZK AR Independence Union Hill An EF1 tornado blew down trees and power lines. This was the fifth of five tornadoes produced by the same supercell thunderstorm.
04:45Z EF0 KSGF MO Douglas Goodhope A NWS Storm Survey found a brief EF-0 tornado affected the town of Goodhope. This tornado produced considerable tree damage along a 1 mile path from just southwest of Goodhope the northeast of Goodhope. Several outbuildings were also damaged. Winds were estimated at 80 MPH.
08:09Z EF2 KSHV LA Caddo Hosston An NWS Storm Survey concluded that thunderstorm damage near Hosston, Louisiana was consistent with that of a tornado. The tornado was rated an EF2 in intensity with winds estimated near 115 mph. Numerous trees were uprooted and snapped along its path. One home in Hosston, Louisiana received minor damage.
08:13Z EF2 KSHV LA Bossier Wardview This is a continuation of the tornado that first touched down in northeast Caddo Parish near the community of Hosston, Louisiana. This tornado crossed the Red River and moved into Bossier Parish. A NWS Storm Survey crew determined that this EF2 tornado uprooted and snapped numerous trees from the time it crossed the Red River until if lifted just west of the town of Plain Dealing. Bossier Parish Sheriffs Office reported that nearly 20 homes suffered damage in the Buckshot Road and Highway 537 areas. Four to six homes suffered substantial damage while another homes suffered slight to moderate damage. The Red Cross set up a shelter near the site. NWS Doppler Radar in Shreveport exhibited a debris ball on storm reflectivity that coincided with the damage witnessed on the survey. While some of these homes were vacant at the time of the tornado touch down, there were no injuries reported.
11:46Z EF0 KNQA TN Shelby Rosemark A weak tornado touched down in Northeast Shelby County causing roof damage to a few homes along Brunswick Road. Trees were also knocked down.
