20:08Z EF0 KDDC OK Beaver Clear Lake A landspout tornado formed during the afternoon hours of the 28th. Eye-witness accounts described the landspout as a brief spin-up that started from the ground and connected with the base of a developing thunderstorm. Several pictures were taken by the eye-witnesses from U.S. Highway 83 approximately 4 miles south of Beaver (Beaver County). A National Weather Service survey team, using the eye-witness accounts, located the track of this landspout. Very little damage was evident given the landspout formed over grasslands and away from developed real estate. The max estimated wind speed was 60 mph. No injuries or fatalities were associated with this landspout tornado.
20:29Z EF0 KDDC OK Beaver Forgan A landspout tornado formed during the afternoon hours of the 28th near the town of Beaver (Beaver County). Eye-witness accounts stated the landspout developed north of the Beaver Sand Dunes State Park east of State Road 23. A National Weather Service survey team located the start of the track approximately 4 miles north of Beaver (Beaver County). Eye-witness reported that the landspout traveled to the northwest, crossed State Road 23, and traveled west of State Road 23 before dissipating approximately 5 miles north-northwest of Beaver (Beaver County). The survey team verified the eye-witness accounts and noted that little damage was evident since the landspout formed over undeveloped grassland. The estimated max wind speed with this tornado was 60 mph. No injuries or fatalities were associated with this landspout.
21:16Z EF3 KTWX KS Nemaha Centralia NWS storm survey indicated that a tornado touched down initially approximately 4 miles west of Corning. The tornado became large and strong producing EF3 damage along its path. It moved slowly and eventually turned north northeast before ending. Maximum winds were estimated around 150 mph.
21:20Z EF1 KTWX KS Nemaha Corning The resident of the EF-1 house south of the EF-3 farm described seeing several sub-tornadoes along with the main one. It appears that a smaller satellite tornado hit this location producing EF1 damage to the south of the main strong tornado. This would have been the 3rd tornado associated with this supercell.
21:23Z EF0 KCYS NE Sioux Porter A weak tornado touched down in open country 10 miles north-northeast of Mitchell. The tornado moved east-southeast. It lifted briefly before crossing State Highway 71 and lowered east of the highway. The tornado dissipated about four miles north of Lake Alice. No damage was reported.
21:45Z EF1 KTWX KS Nemaha Corning Brief touchdown with house and tree damage. This was the last tornado associated with the supercell thunderstorm that produced the strong tornado to the west of Corning earlier.
22:05Z EF0 KCYS NE Box Butte Nonpareil The supercell thunderstorm that spawned the EF0 tornado in southern Sioux County moved east into southwest Box Butte County. Another EF0 tornado developed about 14 miles northeast of Lake Alice and touched down a few times in open country before dissipating. No damage was reported.
22:33Z EF0 KICT KS Ottawa Culver Video shows a brief rope tornado touch down around 533pm CDT nearly 12 minutes prior to the main violent tornado touch down.
22:45Z EF3 KICT KS Ottawa Lindsey A large tornado developed around 545pm CDT and proceeded to move slowly east for approximately 2 miles before turning back to the west and south toward highway 18. The tornado was lost in rain and was not visible after approximately 630 pm however mobile doppler radar supplemental data indicates that this tornado likely persisted through around 645 pm CDT. This tornado was nearly 1 mile wide at times and NWS damage survey found EF3 damage indicators suggesting winds to around 150 mph. 2 mobile doppler radars were within 5-6km of this tornado and did sample winds around and above 100m well in excess of 166 mph. In fact they measured winds of 247 mph at 100m! Nothing close to EF5 damage was revealed on the survey. However, given the lack of damage indicators available within the track of the tornado we have incorporated the mobile doppler wind data into our assessment of the tornado strength and we believe that this tornado contained at least EF4 winds in excess of 166 mph. We acknowledge the current directive which states that one cannot rate tornado intensity by non-damage data sources so we will enter this in as EF3 however we are stating in the comments that this was a violent tornado with most likely EF4 intensity at some point during its life. Amazingly no serious injuries or fatalities were reported. However there were approximately 100 head of cattle that were killed by the tornado.
23:35Z EF1 KPBZ PA Erie Ivarea A supercell thunderstorm produced two tornadoes in Erie County. The first tornado touched down about two miles northeast of Cranesville. The tornado was on the ground for over a mile and a half and downed many trees. A mobile home was also overturned and destroyed. Five people inside the mobile home were injured. A couple of farm buildings were also heavily damaged. Peak winds were estimated to be around 90 mph making it an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale. The damage path was no more than 50 yards wide.
23:37Z EF0 KDDC KS Barton Albert A nearly stationary rope tornado was reported along the Rush/Barton county line. The tornado remained in the country and caused no damage.
23:40Z EF0 KDDC KS Rush Otis A rope tornado did not cause any damage as it moved south.
23:45Z EF0 KAMA TX Deaf Smith Bootleg A discrete supercell thunderstorm produced a brief tornado southwest of Bootleg (Deaf Smith County) during the evening hours of the 28th. Several eye witnesses reported this tornado and submitted pictures. A National Weather Service survey team located the path of this tornado and verified that the tornado was very narrow which matched the description of a rope tornado given by one eye witness. The max wind estimated with this tornado was 70 mph. The tornado remained over undeveloped grasslands and produced little damage. No injuries or fatalities were associated with this tornado.
23:53Z EF1 KPBZ PA Erie Edinboro A second tornado touched down about two miles north of Edinboro. The damage path was almost 18 miles in length and up to 150 yards in width. The tornado caused considerable tree damage in Union City. Trees were uprooted and multiple trees fell on homes causing additional damage. Some of the uprooted trees damaged road surfaces.
