16:35Z EF1 KUDX ND Adams Hettinger This tornado formed just outside of the city of Hettinger, crossed Mirror Lake, where it picked up water, and came into the city on the south side. Tree branches were broken, windows were broken on an apartment building, and an automobile was damaged. The front passenger side of an automobile with two occupants was lifted off the ground a few inches and dropped back down. The occupants saw the narrow tornado spin up the street at them and then lift as it got overhead. They were shook up but no one was injured. Based on the damage done the tornado was rated low end EF1. From that it was determined that the wind speeds were around 90 mph.
19:31Z EF0 KBIS ND Burke Larson Local law enforcement reported a visible debris cloud near the ground with this tornado. This tornado touchdown occurred in the open country with no reported damage.
19:55Z EF0 KBIS ND Stutsman Streeter This tornado touched down in rural Stutsman County. There were no reports of damage.
20:28Z EF0 KMVX MN Norman Fossum The tornado tracked northeast for about 1 mile. Several tree limbs were snapped off in a country cemetery south of Fossum. Peak winds were estimated at 80 mph.
20:38Z EF0 KMVX ND Steele Finley The tornado report was relayed by an off duty Dodge City NWS meteorologist chasing the storm. The tornado tracked northward intermittently for about 4 miles. Damage was not noticed as the tornado remained largely over open fields and rangeland. Peak winds were estimated at 80 mph.
20:43Z EF1 KMPX MN Douglas Leaf Vly Numerous trees were broken or snapped, producing EF-1 damage in Douglas County, then the tornado continued into Otter Tail County, where it intensified to EF-4.
20:44Z EF0 KMVX ND Stutsman Pingree A brief tornado touchdown occurred in rural Stutsman County. No damage reports were received.
20:45Z EF4 KMPX MN Otter Tail Urbank This tornado began in Douglas County, Minnesota. It moved northward into Otter Tail County and produced an additional 38 miles of continuous damage path. The tornado destroyed numerous homes and farmsteads along its path, completely sweeping 7 homes from their foundations. At times, this multi-vortex tornado complex consisted of multiple tornadic tubes pivoting around a common center. Peak winds were estimated at 175 mph.
20:49Z EF4 KMVX ND Traill Portland Jct The tornado tracked northward for nearly 9 miles to about 12 miles north of Mayville by 405 PM CDT and crossed into Grand Forks County. It then continued for another 8 miles to around 10 miles west of Thompson by 418 PM CDT, for a total track length of nearly 17 miles. Trees in shelterbelts and farmsteads were snapped, uprooted, or sheared off. One well constructed house near Holmes was completely swept from its foundation and destroyed. Peak winds were estimated at 185 mph. A farm shop about five and one-half miles north of Mayville was hit by the tornado, destroying the shop. A man inside survived with cuts on his hand.
20:55Z EF0 KMVX MN Otter Tail Vergas Two persistent wall clouds tracked with periodic funnels from north central Otter Tail County into south central Becker County. One produced a brief tornadic touchdown near Rose Lake in Hobart Township. Peak winds were estimated at 75 mph.
21:00Z EF0 KMVX MN Mahnomen Bejou The tornado tracked northeastward for roughly 4 miles, where it then crossed into Polk County at 407 PM CDT. The tornado continued in Polk County for another 2 miles. Several trees were knocked down in farm shelterbelts. The total track length was about 6 miles with peak winds estimated at 80 mph.
21:01Z EF1 KMVX ND Barnes Berea The tornado tracked northward for about a mile to about 1 mile west-southwest of the Baldhill Dam. The tornado snapped a wooden power pole, knocked down several poplar trees, and shredded a portion of an old corn field. Peak winds were estimated at 100 mph.
21:05Z EF4 KMVX ND Grand Forks Holmes This tornado began in Traill County about 3 miles north-northeast of Mayville at 349 PM CDT. The tornado crossed into Grand Forks County and tracked for an additional 8 miles to about 10 miles west of Thompson. The total track length was roughly 17 miles. One well constructed house near Holmes was completely swept from its foundation and destroyed along with several other farm buildings. Peak winds were estimated at 185 mph.
21:05Z EF0 KMVX ND Barnes Dazey Multiple funnel clouds were viewed to the west, southwest, and south of Dazey, all moving northward. One produced a brief touchdown in an open field near Dazey, though no damage was observed. Peak winds were estimated at 80 mph.
21:07Z EF0 KMVX MN Polk Winger This tornado began in Mahnomen County about 3 miles east of Bejou at 400 PM CDT. It crossed into Polk County and tracked for another 2 miles, giving a total track length of about 6 miles. The tornado knocked down several trees in farm shelterbelts. Peak winds were estimated at 80 mph.
21:27Z EF0 KMVX ND Eddy Sheyenne The tornado tracked northward over open rangeland for about a mile and then it crossed into Benson County about 8 miles west of Warwick at 428 PM CDT. Peak winds were estimated at 70 mph.
21:28Z EF2 KMVX ND Steele Hope The tornado tracked northward for nearly 7 miles, to around 1 mile north of Blabon. The tornado produced severe tree damage in field and farm shelterbelts located along its path. Rear flank downdraft winds also produced tree damage at the Hope golf course. Peak winds were estimated at 120 mph.
21:28Z EF0 KMVX ND Benson Tokio The tornado began in Eddy County about 11 miles east of Sheyenne at 427 PM CDT. The tornado crossed into Benson County and dissipated over open pastureland. Peak winds were estimated at 70 mph.
21:30Z EF1 KMVX ND Steele Colgate The tornado tracked northward intermittently for nearly 7 miles. Trees were damaged in shelterbelts and farm yards. A center pivot irrigation system was tumbled and twisted near Colgate. Peak winds were estimated at 95 mph.
21:31Z EF2 KMVX ND Grand Forks Ojata The tornado tracked northward intermittently for about 7 miles. A pole barn and several farm outbuildings were destroyed. Large trees were snapped or uprooted. Debris was thrown near Emerado and just east of the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Peak winds were estimated at 120 mph.
21:32Z EF1 KMVX MN Clearwater Lake Itasca This tornado tracked north-northeastward for roughly a mile, across portions of Long Lost Lake. Numerous large tree limbs were knocked down and large trees were snapped. Peak winds were estimated at 90 mph.
21:40Z EF2 KMVX ND Steele Hope The tornado tracked northeastward for nearly 3 miles to around 8 miles east-northeast of Hope. Numerous trees were severely damaged in shelterbelts. An abandoned farmhouse was collapsed and other farm buildings were damaged. Peak winds were estimated at 125 mph.

21:47Z EF1 KMVX ND Grand Forks (gfk)grand Forks Int The tornado touched down just west of the Grand Forks International Airport and tracked northward for nearly 10 miles. The tornado did lift briefly around 501 PM CDT before reforming with two tornadic vortices extending from a common wall cloud. The twin tornadoes then tracked cyclically up to a mile apart while they snapped and uprooted trees in shelterbelts and collapsed a pole barn. Peak winds were estimated at 100 mph.
21:48Z EF1 KMPX MN Otter Tail Bluffton This tornado tracked briefly to the north-northeast before a wet rear-flank downdraft overtook it as viewed and recorded by multiple storm chase teams. A second and more powerful tornado eventually formed from the parent supercell thunderstorm and impacted the the community of Wadena. Very heavy rains and damaging downdraft winds obscured the overall tornado path. However large tree limbs were broken down and smaller trees were uprooted by the event suggesting peak winds to 90 mph.
21:59Z EF4 KMPX MN Otter Tail Bluffton This tornado touched down in Otter Tail County and tracked northeastward for about 2 miles before crossing into Wadena County just southwest of the Wadena city limits. The tornado developed rapidly into a multi-vortex wedge type tornado as it approached Wadena. The tornado continued in Wadena County another 8 miles and ended about 516 PM CDT. Otter Tail County received mainly extreme tree damage with peak winds estimated at 170 mph.
22:02Z EF0 KMVX ND Steele Sherbrooke The tornado tracked for about 2 miles to near 5 miles south-southeast of Northwood. The tornado was viewed by spotters near Golden Lake and the town of Hatton. Several tree tops were snapped along the Goose River. Peak winds were estimated at 80 mph.
22:02Z EF4 KMPX MN Wadena Wadena This multi-vortex wedge tornado began in Otter Tail County about 3 miles southwest of the city of Wadena at 459 PM CDT. It tracked for about 2 miles in Otter Tail County, then it continued for another 8 miles in Wadena County. The tornado ravaged the western half of the community of Wadena. Numerous homes were flattened to the ground and at least one was completely swept from its foundation and destroyed. Public and industrial buildings were wrecked, the fairgrounds were damaged, and headstones in the cemetery were overturned. School buses and vehicles were propelled through the air for hundreds of yards. The tornado hit on the day of the Wadena all-school reunion, so many additional people were in the area. Roughly 100 people were displaced from their homes. Peak winds were estimated at 170 mph.

The tornado knocked down numerous large tree limbs and snapped or uprooted several large trees from the southeast edge of Itasca State Park, across portions of Beauty Lake, and Lake Alice. Peak winds were estimated at 100 mph.
22:21Z EF1 KMVX ND Walsh Poland A funnel cloud was observed forming to the north of the Interstate 29 exit west of Oslo, Minnesota, at 518 PM CDT. The tornado tracked for nearly a mile before crossing the Red River and continuing into Minnesota about 5 miles north of Oslo, Marshall County. The tornado continued for another 4 miles in Minnesota, ending by 529 PM CDT. Several large trees were snapped near the river. Peak winds were estimated at 90 mph.

22:23Z EF1 KMVX MN Marshall Big Woods This tornado began in Walsh County, North Dakota, about 4 miles north-northwest of Oslo, Minnesota, at 521 PM CDT. It crossed the Red River into Minnesota about 5 miles north of Oslo. The tornado continued to track northeastward for about 4 miles. Numerous large tree limbs were knocked down and several trees were snapped in shelterbelts. Peak winds were estimated at 90 mph.

23:00Z EF1 KMVX MN Polk Gentilly This tornado tracked northeastward for nearly 3 miles. The tornado tore a 5,000 bushel steel grain bin from its concrete pad and tossed it a half mile into a field. Several trees were snapped off or uprooted in a shelterbelt and shingles were torn from a house roof. Peak winds were estimated at 90 mph.
23:00Z EF1 KMPX MN Wright Buffalo Isolated tree damage was noted near the initial touchdown location, but the damage became more concentrated and more intense as the storm approached Constance Lake. Low end EF-1 tornado damage was noted, as the trunks of several trees were snapped at locations on both sides of the lake. An intermittent damage path continued further north, with damage to trees and a small lean-to shelter. The tornado dissipated near the intersection of 85th St NE and Cahill Ave.

23:13Z EF2 KMPX MN Faribault Kiester A damage survey, plus photo and video evidence from storm chasers, showed that this tornado formed south-southwest of Kiester, near the intersection of 20th Street and 570th Avenue, then wrapped around another tornado (which developed about one mile west of Kiester) and dissipated. While southwest of Kiester, it did EF-2 damage to a couple farmsteads, including tree damage and destruction of several grain bins.
23:15Z EF3 KMVX MN Polk Maple Bay This tornado began in Polk County and tracked northeastward for nine miles to the Red Lake County line about 5 miles north-northeast of Mentor. After crossing into Red Lake County, it continued for an additional 6 miles. The tornado tracked across Maple Lake and the community of Mentor. Trees were sheared off or uprooted, power poles were snapped, and roofs and garages were destroyed. A convenience store and gas station along U. S. Highway 2 were flattened. Cabins, campers, boats, and docks were damaged along the northeast side of Maple Lake. Peak winds were estimated at 145 mph.
23:16Z EF1 KMVX MN Red Lake Dorothy This tornado tracked northeastward for roughly 2 miles. The tornado blew a parked semi tractor-trailer rig off the highway and injured the driver. Peak winds were estimated at 90 mph.
23:16Z EF2 KMPX MN Faribault Kiester A damage survey, plus photo and video evidence from chasers, showed this tornado developed just west of Kiester, moved north and struck the northwestern edge of Kiester, producing widespread tree damage and rated EF-1 at this point. It continued north as a multiple vortex tornado, doing EF-2 damage to a grove of trees. Farther north, several trees and grave stones were knocked over in a cemetery. It then turned and moved north-northeast before dissipating to the northeast of Kiester.||It should be noted that another tornado which developed south-southwest of Kiester (see entry for 1710 to 1716 CST) wrapped around this tornado and dissipated west of Kiester.

23:26Z EF1 KMVX MN Marshall Radium This tornado tracked for roughly 7 miles, snapping off numerous trees in shelterbelts along its path. The roof was torn off a small shed near Old Mill State Park and some row crops showed ground scouring. Peak winds were estimated at 105 mph.
23:27Z EF3 KMVX MN Red Lake Terrebonne This tornado began in Polk County, about 4 miles south-southwest of Mentor at 615 PM CDT. The tornado tracked into Red Lake County and continued an additional 6 miles to roughly 4 miles east-northeast of Terrebonne. The tornado sheared trees and blew down farm buildings near the Polk County line and lofted debris from Mentor well past the community of Plummer. The total track length was about 15 miles and peak winds were estimated at 145 mph.

23:29Z EF1 KMPX MN Freeborn Mansfield A brief tornado moved across open fields and groves of trees after developing in Faribault County. It snapped numerous power poles approximately five feet off the ground along County Road 11. Several dozen trees also had large branches snapped off. Tornado was photographed and recorded on video by chasers.
23:33Z EF4 KMPX MN Freeborn Mansfield The tornado initially moved northeast to approximately 3.5 miles west of Conger, where at about (43.6156, -93.6015), it began to move more to the east-northeast. West of Armstrong, at about (43.6597, -93.4938), it began tracking nearly due north to just west of Manchester, where at about (43.7357, -93.4801), it began to move to the north-northwest, before dissipating 1.5 miles west of Hartland. Accounting for the changes in direction of this track, the actual path length covered by the tornado was 19.95 miles.||Near 180th Street and County Road 2, a home was likely in the outer circulation of the tornado, as it sustained some roof and siding damage. A barn was also destroyed to its brick foundation and a car was also flipped over lengthwise. Some evidence of tree debarking was noted. The tornado continued to the northeast and caused extensive crop damage approximately 500 yards in width. Near County Roads 17 and 63, the tornado intensified to produce EF-3 damage, impacting a farmstead and causing the complete destruction of three swine barns and the loss of 12 head of swine. Two empty grain bins were completely blown away at this location. The house at this location had some roof damage but appeared to be northwest of the main tornado path. Approximately 100 feet northeast of the house, a 150 foot tripod style wind turbine tower was twisted and toppled. This location also marked the beginning of crops being completely raked, with only stalks of corn left, and soybean fields being almost unrecognizable.||After passing through this farmstead the tornado took a more easterly path across County Road 63, and maintained EF-3 strength. After passing County Road 63, another farmstead was hit, and two empty harvester silos were toppled. The tornado continued to the northeast across County Road 4, where continued raking of the fields was noted with significant deposition of debris along the tornado path. Numerous trees were toppled at County Road 89 where it turns to the north. The tornado continued to the north-northeast, grew to 1000 yards, and around 1750 LST impacted a farmstead along County Road 12 two miles north of Conger, where EF-4 damage was observed. The house at this location was completely destroyed, as was the barn and several other buildings. Extensive tree damage was noted with nearly all branches being removed from the trunks. Debarking of trees was widespread at this location. A car was also tumbled a distance of 3200 feet, coming to rest in a field east of County Road 12.||The tornado continued to the northeast across County Road 69 and County Road 46, where it weakened slightly to EF-3 intensity. As it crossed County Road 46, a house was rotated off the foundation. The tornado was approximately 700 yards wide at this point. To the north-northeast, a swine barn was destroyed with sheet metal being carried off to Interstate 90. At this same time, a satellite tornado developed and caused damage in the town of Armstrong (see separate entry).||The main tornado continued to the north-northeast and was 500 yards in width. The tornado crossed County Road 74 and caused EF-2 damage to three farmsteads. One farmstead with a manufactured home was hit, resulting in one fatality and one severe injury. The tornado crossed Interstate 90 just west of County Road 14 as it grew to one third of a mile in width and re-strengthened to EF-3 intensity. Several farmsteads saw significant damage between Sugar Lake and County Road 14, with a house and two barns completely destroyed. From this point the tornado continued to the north, growing to one mile in width. Around 1800 LST, a house and barn were destroyed approximately one mile west of Manchester on County Road 25, where extensive tree and structural damage was also noted at several properties in the area. Additionally, west of this tornadic damage, a separate area of tree and structural damage was caused by strong thunderstorm winds associated with a rear flank downdraft (see separate entry).||About one mile north, the tornado weakened slightly to EF-2 Intensity, where it damaged three full grain bins near County Road 29. The tornado was approximately 1300 yards at this point. Further north, at County Road 95, the tornado continued to weaken, although a farmstead still received EF-1 damage to trees and structures. Finally, the tornado continued north and began to narrow and weaken. It dissipated west of Hartland. One person was killed and 14 injured from this tornado.
23:55Z EF1 KMPX MN Freeborn Armstrong This was a satellite tornado to the Conger EF-4. It damaged trees, several grain bins and structures.
00:05Z EF3 KMPX MN Freeborn (ael)albert Lea Arpt Touchdown was near the intersection of Freeborn County Roads 14 and 20. Multiple farmsteads experienced significant structural and tree damage, including one house completely destroyed and several others heavily damaged. Many outbuildings were destroyed, hundreds of trees uprooted and snapped, with some partially debarked. It then moved into Steele County, southwest of Ellendale, where it began moving to the north-northwest.
00:15Z EF1 KMPX MN Freeborn Clarks Grove This tornado touched down near the intersection of Interstate 35 and Freeborn County Road 31. Multiple outbuildings were destroyed and numerous large trees were broken or toppled. It exited Freeborn County just north of Geneva, where it continued into Steele County.
00:30Z EF2 KMPX MN Steele Ellendale This tornado moved from Freeborn County and into Steele County and began moving to the north-northwest, thereby missing the city of Ellendale. At about (43.9255, -93.3453), it began moving toward the northwest, and at about (43.9407, -93.3627), it actually turned some more and moved toward the west-northwest until it finally dissipated. Accounting for the change in direction, the tornado had an actual path length of 7.7 miles in Steele County. Along the way, several homes experienced significant structural damage, with one house completely destroyed and the roof removed from two others. Many outbuildings were destroyed, and hundreds of trees were uprooted and snapped.
00:33Z EF1 KMPX MN Steele Ellendale This tornado originated in Freeborn County, near Clark's Grove and producing minor damage in Geneva. It entered Steele County near County Road 45 and 168th Street SW and moved north-northeast for most of the time it existed, but at about (43.9154, -93.2159), it turned and began moving to the north-northwest, and dissipated while on its north-northwest track. Thus, the overall path length was 12.93 miles when accounting for the change in direction. In Steele County, several outbuildings were destroyed, the roof was taken off a barn, and numerous large trees were downed.
00:42Z EF1 KMPX MN Freeborn Lerdal This tornado destroyed a barn, broke dozens of trees, and damaged a few sheds. As it began to dissipate, it became very narrow and then rotated halfway around a new tornado west of Hollandale. Video filmed by storm chaser.
00:47Z EF3 KMPX MN Freeborn Hollandale As the Lerdal tornado began to dissipate, it rotated around this new one west of Hollandale. This new EF-3 tornado went on to obliterate a farmstead, with virtually every outbuilding destroyed, and the farm house leveled. It continued northeast and took the roof off a house and destroyed a greenhouse. Just before dissipating, it hit one more farmstead near County Roads 30 and 35, causing damage to outbuildings, minor damage to the house, and uprooting and breaking a couple dozen trees. 01:03Z EF1 KMPX MN Freeborn Newry A tornado developed just to the southeast of the intersection of County Roads 30 and 35, or about 1/4 mile southeast of where the Hollandale EF-3 had dissipated. This new tornado tracked northeast, hitting three farmsteads just east of the intersection of county roads 30 and 35. Numerous trees were snapped and a shed and other outbuildings were destroyed. For the latter portion of its track, the tornado moved through fields and groves, with more crop damage and broken trees. Photos and video recorded by storm chaser.
01:05Z EF0 KDLH MN Aitkin Haypoint A tornado touched down briefly near Haypoint, in the Moose Willow State Wildlife Management Area. There was little damage.
01:10Z EF3 KMPX MN Steele Blooming Prairie This tornado developed just north of the Steele/Freeborn County line, shortly after the dissipation in Freeborn County of the Newry tornado. This new tornado moved northeast, and initially, occasional trees were broken. Damage intensified somewhat when it hit a farm on State Highway 30 just west of Blooming Prairie. The tornado continued moving northeast, decimating crops. Some bean fields were scoured in spots. It intensified significantly to EF-3 2.5 miles northwest of Blooming Prairie, where a house was leveled, trees were snapped, and large portions of bark were removed. A pickup truck was lofted about 50 feet into the basement of the house. Several other houses sustained minor damage. The tornado dissipated just west of Highway 218 and 123rd Street. 01:25Z EF2 KMPX MN Steele Blooming Prairie This EF-2 tornado touched down and tracked east-northeast, and soon crossed the path of the Blooming Prairie EF-3 that had moved north-northeast about 10 minutes earlier. A manufactured home was obliterated by the EF-2. A woman inside the home was blown about 20 feet, but was found under debris, rescued by law enforcement, and survived. The tornado continued moving east-northeast, and several outbuildings were destroyed, along with many broken trees. The tornado continued into Dodge County.
01:27Z EF0 KMPX MN Steele Blooming Prairie This tornado moved north-northeast and caused minor damage to outbuildings and broke several dozen trees. It exited Steele County about 3/4 mile south of Steele County Road 26 and continued into Dodge County.
01:28Z EF0 KMPX MN Dodge Hayfield A tornado developed over Steele county and briefly moved north-northeast into Dodge County before dissipating southwest of Claremont. The tornado traveled across rural areas of Dodge County with little damage.
01:30Z EF1 KMPX MN Dodge Hayfield This was the second tornado of the night to hit Dodge County. It formed over Steele County where it was rated an EF2, and then moved into Dodge County affecting rural areas of the county northeast of Blooming Prairie. Most of the damage occurred near County Roads 3 and 4 where roofs were partially torn off buildings and trees were blown down.
01:44Z EF0 KMPX MN Chisago Rush City A tornado touched down in extreme northern Chisago County, uprooting trees and breaking large branches. It then moved into Pine County, where it intensified and produced EF-2 damage, and eventually tracked into Burnett County, Wisconsin.
01:45Z EF2 KMPX MN Pine Rock Creek The severe storm that produced the tornado tracked northeast along the Saint Croix River Valley on the Minnesota-Wisconsin state border. Although the tornado crossed through mostly recreational land, residents between Rush City and Rock Creek in MN, as well as Grantsburg to Yellow Lake in WI were impacted. The maximum path width was a quarter mile, or 400 yards, with an average path width of 400 to 600 ft. The tornado exited Pine County at around 1955 CST, continuing on in Burnett County, WI, where it lifted at 2001 CST, about 3.5 miles northwest of Grantsburg, WI. The total path length was about 6.5 miles. ||The worst of the damage occurred in far southeast Pine County and was evidence of a strong EF2 tornado with estimated winds of 110-135 mph. This rating was based on the total destruction of a strapped down mobile home and the extensive uprooting/snapping of trees where the tornado crossed Minnesota State Highway 70. Two people in a mobile home were injured. Multiple homes sustained significant damage.
02:01Z EF1 KDLH WI Burnett Grantsburg A tornado crossed the St. Croix River into southwest Burnett County Wisconsin from Pine County Minnesota, about 1.5 miles north of Highway 70, and dissipated about 3.5 miles west-northwest of Grantsburg, WI. The tornado moved into Wisconsin around 9 pm. EF1 damage was assigned due to damage to a home near Grantsburg WI, along with significant tree damage.
02:03Z EF1 KMPX MN Olmsted Douglas An EF1 tornado produced intermittent damage starting near 50th Ave NW just south of the Northern Hills Golf Course northeast almost to the intersection of 55th St NW and and 23rd Ave NW in the city of Rochester. The path of the tornado took it through a residential area where several homes were damaged. It also struck a Menards store doing extensive damage before dissipating a few minutes later. According to media reports, the tornado damaged at least 30 homes, one of which was destroyed.
02:05Z EF0 KDLH WI Burnett Grantsburg A second EF0 tornado briefly formed and dissipated a short time later from the same parent thunderstorm.
02:57Z EF1 KARX WI Buffalo Cream A brief tornado in the vicinity of Cream created mainly tree damage with some minor damage to a few buildings. Some of the trees damaged included 30 inch diameter trees snapped off or blown down.
